Setting the right rental price for your item
A simple method to set a daily, weekend, weekly and monthly price that attracts renters without underselling your gear.
Start from the new price
A good starting point: 5 to 10% of the new price per day. A €400 party tent rents for around €25 to €40 a day. A €600 paddle board for €30 to €50. Items in high demand or rare in your area can sit at the top of the range.
Offer decreasing rates
In the app you can set a day, weekend, week and month rate. A weekend at 1.5 times the daily price and a week at 4 times encourage longer rentals, meaning fewer meetings for more income.
Check local competition
Search for your item in the catalogue for your territory. If you are the only one offering it in Martinique or French Guiana, you can price slightly higher. If there are ten, work on your photos and description rather than slashing prices.
Remember the commission
Tout à Louer takes 12% on each rental (minimum €1.50). You keep 88% of the price you set. EXPERT and ELITE pros pay no commission.
State the item’s value
It is used to compute the deposit automatically: 50% of the value, capped at €500 (€2,000 for EXPERT and ELITE pros). A fair value reassures the renter and protects you.
Three mistakes that scare renters away
A daily price too close to the purchase price: above 15% of the new price per day, renting loses out to second-hand buying. A listing without a long-term rate: a renter who needs a week will look elsewhere. An overstated item value: it inflates the deposit and deters requests without protecting you more.
Adjust with the season
Demand for party equipment explodes in December and during wedding season, generators and chainsaws during hurricane season, DIY tools at back-to-school time. You can raise your price by 20 to 30% in those periods and lower it off-season to stay visible. Check the site’s “Renting by season” pages to plan ahead.
The right reflex: look at your neighbours
Before publishing, search your item in your territory’s catalogue and note three prices. Place yourself within the range, then stand out with the photo (clean item, natural light, accessories visible), the description (brand, power, what is included) and delivery. That is what makes people choose your listing, far more than two euros less.
